Takanori Shibata of Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, brought his creation to America and exhibited at the Kennedy Center where Heather Whyte, director of Vinson Hall, instantly fell for this bot. And so Paro has become the new addition to the Vinson Hall's elderly retirement home. This cuddly cute Paro is a fur-covered robot and has become everybody's favorite as it is designed to snuggle, bat its eyelashes, waggle its tail and is simply adorable. Patients with severe memory loss are sometimes prone to psychiatric disturbances, including hallucinations and personality changes, and Paro might provide a way to calm them or at least shift their mood. Kathleen L. Martin head of Vinson Hall believes that this robot produces powerful emotional effect because it stimulates the senses on different levels and seems to communicate with people. It elicits feelings of compassion and pleasure that animals do. More over it is not threatening like living animals.]]>

Needles have been a source of aversion shared by one and all during childhood and in some cases in adulthood as well. Japanese being the perfectionists, always have a source for assembling more and reasons to amplify their customer base. Their obsession with miniature objects and miniature human frames has led to new developments in technology. The latest ones we got our hands on are two products that claim to reshape your face. Kogao Meiku Beruto (small face belt) helps you to get a slimmer cheek, strain skin or get rid of a double chin. Tex Mex's Slim mouth is a product that treats wide mouth by training the right muscles for three minutes everyday. The small face belt is available from Internet shops retails for $9 and Tex Mex's Slim mouth sells at Tokyu hands for $8.

It seems with Richard Palmer's flexible rubber-like pads you can gain super hero like status...almost. Apparently, these pads instantly harden from a gel-like liquid into a protective shield upon impact. Richard agrees that protective gear makes people indulge in unnecessary risks, but not too many as d3o's lack of bulk creates a different psychological effect. "You don't feel like RoboCop; you feel like Spider Man," Palmer said. "You feel confident, but you don't feel invincible." But give this is a bunch of stupid or drunk teenagers and the line between confident and invincible will be instantly blurred. However, if monitored well and used wisely, this can be a sensation. This is obvious from the fact that d30 is making its way into professional sports and high-end gear that mountain bikers, skiers, snowboarders and stuntmen. Quicksilver has been quick to tap into this market and is already making a wool hat for skiers and snowboarders with D30 in it.]]>
<![CDATA[d30 is not only good to avoid bruises and injuries, but you can also look stylish doing so. I'm not sure I'd pick it over more traditional protective gear yet, but if you guys try it out then let me know how the
experiment goes.

The blind and visually impaired will be accessible to the Apple application and Web site for downloading and purchasing music by means of screen access software that converts on-screen information into Braille or speech. Further more Apple has also contribute $250,000 to the Massachusetts Commission for the Blind to help the agency buy assistive technology that can make the Internet and computer programs more approachable for the blind.

This airbag is targeted for the aged folks suffering from epilepsy, who are susceptible to injury. The head of the firm, Mitsuya Uchida, claims that the device when strapped around the body inflates in 0.1 seconds, if it detects it is accelerating towards the ground. However this airbag cannot protect those who fall forward as it has one pocket behind the head and the other around the hips. The company feels that they have a huge market for their product as Japan has a large elderly population with nearly 30 million people over the age of 65.

Now it's time to welcome a back implant as well. Folks suffering from Spinal Stenosis or the closing of the spinal canal caused by the deterioration of bone, joint and ligament structures have a new reason to rejoice as a new procedure has been contemplated that can restore the use of your full back. The procedure is being tested in the U.S and also in practice in other countries. It's called TFAS, the Total Facet Arthoplasty System created by Archus Orthopedics, a private company in Redmond, Washington. The patented spinal implant company replaces worn facets of the spine.]]>
<![CDATA[The procedure incorporates a process in which facets are joined in the back of each vertebra that articulate with each other and allow independent movement. Clinical studies of TFAS are currently being conducted by Archus in 20+ cities in the US. The success of this test 10 years down the line would mean: Streets full of oldies playing Golf and Tennis. Either which ways this would be bad for the Census guys, but good for us people to see our kin living a healthy and hearty life!
