Implanted Microchip examines health and releases medication

microCHIPSchip_01.jpg Chronic illnesses like Diabetes or lupus are frustrating in the sense that they require constant monitoring and regular visits to the clinics. But a new device is being conceived by MicroCHIPS in order to alleviate the need for such constant visits. The chip about the size of a coin senses changes in body chemistry and releases medicines when necessary. Apparently, the chip is claimed to be more precise than the finger pricking method for blood testing. The use of the chip also minimizes the risk of complications like blindness and kidney failure in diabetics.

Clinical trials will begin next year for the first glucose monitoring and osteoporosis drug releasing chips. MicroCHIP is also planning to devise advanced versions that predict heart or kidney failure, biodegrade in the body, and release multiple vaccine or drug doses over time.
