Taser shot averts fibrillation of mentally disturbed drug addict

tase-me-bro.jpg We’ve always heard of tasers being harmful or in some cases even killing people, but could they have a positive effect on a patient’s body? This is what the story says- A 28 year old man who was tased after he hid from the police in lake for 40 minutes and then tried to escape when captured. The man’s body temperature had fallen to 89 degrees and his heart fell into atrial fibrillation (a condition where the upper chambers of the heart quiver rather than beat) owing to his long stay in the lake and the drugs (Cocaine and speed) found in his system. The patient’s heart had returned to its normal condition only when he was tased and the electrodes monitoring his condition were re-attached.

This is the first time unearthed that a taser has corrected a patient’s heartbeat, although the role that the taser played in the patient’s recovery was debatable considering that it could be a spontaneous event that occurred with impeccable timing. Doctor’s in the patient’s case believe that the change in his body might have occurred as a result of treatment with beta blockers.
