Walkers made to swallow RFID pills for monitoring body temperature

walkers-rfid-pill.jpg The recent four day marches of Nijmegen walking race that occurred earlier this month, were taken full benefit of, by some researchers from Radbound University in The Netherland for the purpose of conducting a little experiment. Ten volunteers from the race were persuaded to swallow an RFID pill as part of a study to monitor body temperature. The pills didn’t dissolve, instead, they went down to the bottom to record and transmit the walker’s core temperature to a receiver in their backpack every ten seconds. This data was sent via Bluetooth to a GPS enabled phone that then passed it on to operations center at Radbound.

All those statistics on their tools, the researchers were able to monitor each walker and alert them if their temperature was reaching a dangerous level. This type of software is particularly useful for big scale events like marathons and other sports, which is why our researchers are slogging their ass out to plan bigger tests for next year.
