High-tech baby monitor keeps a tab on the breathing movements

monitor_baby.jpg Instead of thinking out of the box, it sometimes helps if we can simply look into the existing methods and come up with outstanding solutions. Just like the prototype baby monitor that is based on the same technology that tracks enemy bombers and hurricanes. Intended to track the baby’s breathing, this remote monitoring device raises alarm if it fails to detect the movements of chest associated with breathing. Researchers from University of Florida have devised this device that works using Doppler radar to remotely scan the in-and-out movement of the baby’s chest. This one is certainly meant for parents who are keen to keep a tab on every movement of the infant….even the breathing movements.

UF engineering students Changzhi Li, Julie Cummings, Jeffrey Lam, Eric Graves and Stephanie Jimenez designed the monitor.
